How SpamBuster works
Email arrives
When an email arrives in your inbox, SpamBuster checks to see if it's on an allow list.
Is sender on an allow list?

Yes

No
Done. The message stays in your inbox and no action is taken. You know this sender.
The message is moved to your SpamBuster folder.
The sender is sent an email stating the message has been delivered, but is not in the inbox until they verify that they're human and this message isn't spam.
Does sender click verify?

Yes
The message is moved to your inbox and a new information block is added to the top of the message. You may know this sender, but let's be sure.
No
Done. The message stays in your SpamBuster folder.
If this is a message you did actually want, you can go in and click "Allow this sender" to not require verification in the future.
This is useful for things like Newsletters or credit card notifications, even dentist reminders.
Can I edit the allow lists?
You are 100% in control of your allow lists. There is no IT department setting up rules or blocks. You see everything that hits your inbox and are in full control.
Can I always block someone?
Absolutely! For instance, if you never have a reason to email people in Russia, you can set SpamBuster to never allow messages from anyone in Russia and never request a verification.
How many allow lists are there?
You can turn on or off each of these:
-
Email addresses in my contact list
-
Email addresses I've sent email to
-
Email addresses from my same domain (good for corporate, not good for Gmail)
-
Email addresses that are in my inbox (good for newsletters, dentist reminders, streaming services, etc.)
-
Email sent to a specific alias (useful for things like bills, or alias redirects that you always want to receive)
-
Messages that contain a magic code that you set
-
Domains on a known good list (ex Microsoft, Google, Apple, Netflix, Citi etc.)
-
People with a known good reputation of 80 or more
The information block
Title | Finding | Info |
---|---|---|
Message from | Sender full name and full email address | Info |
Message sent to | Actual email address the email was sent to
| Useful as sometimes email sent to an alias can't unsubscribe without knowing |
Sender IP, Verifier IP | 123.231.123.2 , 123.231.123.5 | Green |
Time between send and verification | 6 minutes | Green |
Sender country | Russia | Red |
Reply-to address | Full reply-to address | Yellow if different from sender address |
ACTION | <This is spam> | Move to SpamBuster and remove from any allow lists |
ACTION | <This is a known sender> | Move to Inbox and add to allow list |
Have you ever received an email from a name you knew, but it wasn't actually from that person?
The information block adds critical details to the top of a message so you can see exactly what is going on:
